Former UK National Rally champion Paul Bird is targeting a third consecutive victory at Sol Rally Barbados 2014 which takes place on the Caribbean Island next weekend where the Ford Focus WRC08 will be resplendent with two new sponsors following a recent deal.
Local companies Rubis Petroleum and Cockspur Rum will be backing Bird's bid to make it a hat-trick of victories to consolidate the Cumbrian, from Langwathby, being the most successful overseas visitor to the Caribbean's biggest annual motor sport international, whereby 'Birdy' is also the first driver to have finished on the podium six years in a row and would become only the second to claim a hat-trick.
The British Superbike and MotoGP team boss, who will again have Aled Davies as co-driver said: "After winning the event for the past two years, I'm hungry for the hat-trick so to get two internationally known companies such as Rubis and Cockspur on board is brilliant and is just the boost I need. The team has worked wonders to get the car ready so the plan is to make it worthwhile for them, the sponsors and of course myself as I'm still hurting following my Manx accident. We will run the sponsorship decals for the remainder of the season in the UK also as part of our commitment."
Prior to the two-day SOL Rally Barbados getting underway on Saturday May 31st, Bird will be in action at the Scotiabank King of the Hill this weekend as a prelude to the action starting in earnest next weekend and will be hoping to improve on his second place of last year.
