Disappointment For Frank In Hungary

Sunday, July 02, 2017

The Hungaroring was the destination for round five of the 2017 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup this weekend where Cumbrian-born Frank Bird was in action for the Fortec Motorsport Team.

The 17-year-old Be Wiser, Hager, WIX Filters and Frank Bird Poultry-backed driver originally from Penrith was hoping to continue his great progress after a superb weekend at Monza last weekend where he posted a couple of top ten results.

Despite a promising start on his debut at the track in mixed weather conditions, Frank struggled throughout practice and qualifying whereby he was diagnosed with a severe bout of food poisoning.

He battled on despite feeling unwell for the remainder of the weekend but unfortunately his results couldn’t match his determination meaning it was a weekend to forget for the teenager.

Frank Bird: “Something I ate didn’t agree with me in the strongest sense and it’s been a massive struggle all weekend. I gave it my best shot but it wasn’t to be this weekend so we’ll move onto the next round in Germany and hopefully be in a position to get back to action. Thanks to the team and my sponsors, we’ll bounce back stronger and look forward to making up for the disappointment here.”

The next round takes place at Nurburgring in two weeks’ time (15/16th July).
