Following a disappointing weekend in the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup Championship at Circuit deBarcelona-Catalunya last time out, Arden Motorsport driver Frank Bird bounced back in style to claim more points at Hockenheim in Germany this weekend.
The 20-year-old Cumbrian originally from Penrith was determined to improve on his bad luck in Spain, especially after good performances at the previous rounds in Hungary and Germany as he looked to add to his points tally in the PBM, Hager, Fuchs Silkolene and Frank Bird Poultry-backed car.
The Collective Tests and qualifying didn’t quite go to plan but in the opening race, Frank battled through the field to claim a ninth-place finish in the dry before challenging for the points again in race two, only to spin out two laps from home in the wet conditions.
The final round of the series takes place in Abu Dhabi later this month with Frank hoping to round off the season in style.
Frank Bird: “Not a bad weekend after a disappointing meeting in Barcelona last time. In race one, I showed decent pace coming through the pack and had a really good battle all the way through with myteam-mates finishing in P9. Race 2 was very wet, and we had decent pace which was a bit of a surprise because we had been struggling all weekend in the wet but in the race got up to P11 from 17th on the grid but then spun with two laps to go. I think we will take that after struggling in practice so now it’s one last push for Abu Dhabi in two weeks. Thanks, as always to all sponsors and my dad.”
