Frank Bird Goes In Search Of Barcelona Podium

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS comes to an end this weekend with the fifth and final round of the Endurance Cup at Barcelona where Cumbrian driver Frank Bird will be in action.

22-year-old Frank, from Penrith, will again be at the wheel of the Team WRT Audi R8 LMS in which he’ll partner Japanese ace Ryuichiro Tomita and Danish driver Valdemar Eriksen.

Despite success in the Sprint Cup, the team will be battling for honours in the Silver Cup class of the Endurance Cup where they go in search of their first podium.

At Monza in the opening round, they finished in a fine fourth place before damage ruled them out of the Paul Ricard race. A battling seventh place at the tough 24 Hours of Spa was followed by a sixth-place last time out at Nürburgring.

Bird and his teammates occupy fourth in the Silver Cup standings, just four points off second place, so the trio hope a podium is on the cards in this weekend’s three-hour race to elevate themselves up the order.

Frank Bird: “I can’t believe it’s the final round of the season already. The last round we had in Valencia for the Sprint Cup proved to be a tough one for the whole team, so we are looking to bounce right back in Barcelona. I have never been there in a GT car so it will be a bit new but I’m looking forward to the challenge and finish the season on a good note.”
