Podium For Bird In Barcelona

Penrith driver Frank Bird rounded off a fantastic season in great style when he scored a podium finish in today’s fifth and final round of the Fanatec GT World Cup Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup in Barcelona.

The 22-year-old Cumbrian along with Japanese teammate Ryuichiro Tomita and Danish driver Valdemar Eriksen overcame a clash with some other drivers early on in the three-hour race followed by a slow puncture to bring the Team WRT Audi R8 LMS home in second place in the Silver Cup.

The result meant Bird finished fifth in the standings but importantly, it helped the Belgian team to second place overall in the Team’s Silver Cup to round off a very successful season.

Frank Bird: “It was a mega race for the last race of the season. I had a good start, but I was hit by several cars, then had a slow puncture in the rear left, it was a difficult stint for me, but then Valdemar and Ryu did a great job and kept P2. It’s the best reward for all the hard work throughout the season, thank you to the entire team and our sponsors.”
